A Compassionate Emergency Dentist
Sometimes patients end up in an emergency dental situation because they have a fear of the dentist. Usually that means they haven’t had their teeth looked at in years. They’re embarrassed and worried they’ll be judged. We can assure you that won’t happen with Dr. Goldstein. He is compassionate and will put you at ease. His goal is to give you the best care possible.
Causes of Dental Emergencies
When you’re in pain it generally means there is an infection somewhere. As you can see in the picture on the left, when decay reaches the pulp of the tooth, the pulp becomes infected. It tries to swell in order to fight off the infection, but there is no room for that in the tooth, which in turn causes you pain. That’s what you feel in the toothache.
Without treatment, the infection causes the pulp of your tooth to die and the tooth will stop hurting. At that point, you may think the infection is gone, but it isn’t and will continue to spread. Once it has spilled into the bone, you’ll develop an abscess. If you continue to leave this untreated, it can become life threatening. That’s why it’s so important you don’t let this get out of control. A simple procedure can heal the infection and get you back to a life without tooth pain.
There are other causes for emergency dentistry as well. Some of them include: a broken tooth, a cracked tooth, a lost dental crown, a tooth knocked out. If you’re in this situation, don’t be embarrassed. Call our office. We’ll see you today.
